NEWS

3/10/09:

Lotsa News!

+We are pleased to announce that we can now accept charitable contributions through Fractured Atlas, our new fiscal sponsors.  It's a great organization, so do check them out. But that's why there's a new donation box to the left.

+Check the calendar page for the dates of our series for next season. You can also buy season tickets for next year there as well.

+We are in the planning stages for some classes for students and adult amateur musicians at Spoke the Hub this summer. As of right now, Joel will be running a weekly class called

The 3 Minute Song: Mozart to Radiohead

in which we will listen to a bunch of songs by classical and pop artists. We will put these songs in their artistic and historical context through age-appropriate activities. But we're accepting anyone over the age of 8 who wants to expand their musical vocabulary.

We also are planning chamber music lessons for the summer (and beyond?) for both students and adult amateurs. Email Joel if you're interested.

Other than our upcoming show on April 18th at 8 PM at St. Ann in Brooklyn Heights, that's enough already!

2/3/09:

We're mostly just really happy to be getting started at our new venue this weekend. Go to the calendar for info and tix! Hope to see you there!

1/12/09:

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to resuming our season in our new home in Brooklyn Heights. That show is

February 7th

at 8PM

Check the calendar page for tickets and full disclosure.

Also, Joel will be performing Rami Vamos' version of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Rami on guitar

January 25th

at 2 and 4 PM

at Spoke the Hub in Park Slope.

See the Children's Concerts page for disclosure on that one.

12/20/08:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! The details for our January performance with Rami Vamos are up on the Childrens' Concert page. Ok!

11/19/08:

We have added new concerts to our calendar and children's concert pages. We are very much looking forward to our new home in Brooklyn Heights!

10/29/08:

GOODBYE GREENPOINT!

SATURDAY, Nov. 8

8PM

HELLO BROOKLYN HEIGHTS!

Feb. 7, 2009

We're moving in February, but come on out November 8th and hear the last Music at Ascension show with MaNi. Emi and Joel will be playing a duo program. See the calendar page for full disclosure. Season tickets will be honored at the new venue, and there's still time to buy them. Ahem.

10/21/08:

Rami and Friends

Children's Concert this Saturday at 4!

Tix are $5 at the door, and we're performing with Rami at Greenpoint's Church of the Ascension. 127 Kent Street 11222. BTW Franklin and Manhattan. Greenpoint Ave. G Train.

Rami has invited Walker Lewis and Nurit Monacelli to play the roles of Schmutzinberry and the Narrator respectively. MaNi has invited Janey Choi, Ella Toovy, and Erin Wight to flesh out the music portion of the program. This show is realy funny! Definitely make it if you can.

10/02/08: We are happy and sad to announce that we are moving the Music at Ascension series to St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights. There are a lot of good reasons for us to do it, but we love Greenpoint and will very much miss it. But St. Ann's is also a lovely church that is home to a great organ, a wonderful piano, several other arts organizations, and the first use of American stained glass- made in the Bronx! We're looking forward to introducing you all to our new home, and hoping you'll come out in the next months to help us say goodbye to the old!

PS- Season tickets will be honored at the new venue.

9/19/08: We have the most current info about our upcoming children's show, Wolfgang Amadeus Schmutzinberry II: They Only Come Out In The Morning, on our children's concerts page. You can learn more about the show's creator, Rami Vamos, on his website or in this interview.

9/15/08: Thanks to everyone who was at the show on Saturday! It was a very nice vibe, and we had a great time with you. Thanks!

By way of update,

  • Our first children's concert has been set for Saturday, October 25 at 4 PM. It will be at the Church of the Ascension. We will be joined by our friend Rami Vamos, who has written a wonderful show based on Brahms' G Minor Piano Quartet (yes, it's the one we just played on Saturday). Check back for details, they'll be posted as we get them.
  • Alanna Kaivalya recently asked Joel to play at one of her yoga classes. She's using that performance in one of her bi-monthly podcasts. You can find her site here. In addition to her weekly (fantastic!) yoga classes Wednesdays at 5PM at Jivamukti Yoga Center, she also sings and writes music, so definitely check out her site!
  • Join us on Facebook here!
That's it for now. Happy Fall! ***
